Our Mission Project - Zippered Chemo Port Shirts

At The Unlimited Stitch, creating meaningful keepsakes is at the heart of what we do. But beyond memory pieces and custom gifts, there is another part of our work that means just as much — serving families walking through cancer treatment.

How It Started

For many years, I have been a supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Watching children and families face unimaginable diagnoses with courage has always deeply impacted me.

When close friends of ours had a young son diagnosed with leukemia, they asked if I could help make shirts that allowed easier access to his port during treatments. He wanted to wear his own clothes — not hospital gowns — but still needed quick access for infusions.

So, we added discreet side zippers to his shirts.

It was a small change, but it made treatment days more comfortable and gave him a sense of normalcy.

After losing my own mom to cancer, this mission became even more personal. I knew I wanted to use my skills to serve others in a practical, tangible way.

Zippered Chemo Port Shirts

Our mission project provides professionally installed zipper access in shirts for children and adults who have chest ports for chemotherapy or long-term treatments.

These modified shirts allow patients to:

  • Stay comfortably dressed during infusions
  • Avoid changing into hospital gowns
  • Maintain dignity and warmth
  • Feel just a little more like themselves

Families simply send us their shirts, and we carefully install a durable, discreet zipper along the port-access side.

We offer this service at a minimal cost — just enough to cover basic materials and time — because the goal is not profit. The goal is comfort.

Let us walk alongside you in this season. Click below to order your Zippered Port Shirt service and send your shirts to us — we’ll stitch each one with care and prayer.

More Than a Service

If you feel comfortable sharing the name of the person receiving the shirts, we will pray for them by name. Every order represents a real person walking a hard road, and we consider it an honor to serve them.

This mission is our way of giving back — one shirt, one family, one small act of comfort at a time.
